I love The Shave Cave! I’m into old school types of things, so Lori knew it would be a great idea to get me a gift card for my birthday a couple of years ago. She actually bought the very first gift card just before they were even opened for business.
I have to admit that at first I didn’t get it when I saw the prices. I was used to paying much less for a haircut, and I always shaved my own face for free. So, if that’s what you’re thinking, let me help you.
I’ve been part of the monthly club for just over a year now – I go twice a month, and in between visits I can’t wait to go back. The Shave Cave is an absolute luxury that every guy should treat himself to. It’s addicting ... in a very good way. They take the chore of shaving and turn it into an extravagance.
The Haircut: This is a perfect example of “you get what you pay for”. There is way, way more attention-to-detail than the cheap places, (which charge you additional for beard, mustache and eyebrows). This is all included at The Shave Cave, and there’s more. Head massage anyone? Yes, please! Not only does the massage feel great, but the hot lather and straight razor edge feels great too and makes you look quite sharp!
The Shave: I do the Gold Face Shave. (There is a more involved with extra services Platinum Shave too.) The Gold Shave starts with a face wash and then a hot towel for several minutes. Not only does this open your pores for a better shave, it is also quite relaxing.
Then pre-shave oil is applied (I love the cedar scented, and the bay rum) with a face massage that feels really great behind the ears. I could almost fall asleep at this point. Then, you get a second hot towel for a few minutes, which is quite luxurious. Next, hot lather is applied with a shave brush and the first pass is done with a straight razor going with the grain. Then, another hot towel! Nice! Hot lather is reapplied and then a shave against the grain. Finally, an ice-cold towel for a few minutes, and then rose water tonic and after shave moisturizer.
If you are in the monthly club, you get a 10% discount on all products. Most of the inventory of products, like shaving cream, oils, after-shave, etc. are handmade in-house. Also, as a member of the club, you get your own locker to store your shave brush, and even a bottle of booze if you like.
You are offered a free beer or water when you arrive. There are large screen TVs with sports on, as well as music. They put on jazz for me by special request when I was there recently.
Several players from The Tampa Bay Rays, Rowdies, and the Buccaneers come here for their haircuts and shaves. Lots of professional sports players are quite stylish off the field, and The Shave Cave helps keep them on top of their game when they are out of uniform.
To add one more touch of manliness to it, The Shave Cave has a professional shoe shine stand, which is another luxury you should treat yourself too.
Another bonus is that they are in a great location at The Sundial Shops with excellent restaurants and shopping, along with a movie theater.
I highly recommend The Shave Cave! Tell them that Kevin Godbee sent you.
