The Creative Style for Men
The Creative Style is Unconventional and Artistic. It is a non-classic style.
Personality traits: innovative, imaginative, unconventional, unique, spontaneous, free-spirited, adventurous.
Messaging: Creatives are seen as imaginative and free, inventive, unique, spontaneous and sometimes quirky. They often do work in creative fields or have creative hobbies and interest; fashion, arts, dance, stylists, writers, design, music, etc. They take risks and their wardrobe is often a function of their creative urges.
Basic shape: any silhouette or combination can be used.
Basic Colors: off-beat- murky or neon; surprising combinations like curry & teal, purple & khaki, gray & olive.
Fabrics: loosely or closely woven, soft/fluid and hard/firm; layering these opposite gives an eclectic look; tweed, gabardine, textured cotton, raw silk, rayon, leather, suede, corduroy, velvet, vintage menswear.
Patterns: batik, wallpaper, tapestry, paisley, ethnic, and dark florals mixed in extraordinary combinations like plaid with stripes, polka dots with paisley, floral with geometrics, etc.
Hair: A variety of styles: natural, avante garde, trendsetting. Controlled or wild. Hanging in face, or pulled back. Straight, curly, kinky, dreadlocks, braids, ponytail. Short, medium, long, or a combination of lengths. Facial Hair: None, stubble, shadow, goatee, unusual trimming, character mustache, or beard.
Easily recognizable elements of Creative Style are: Mixing of anything and everything, unpredictable or unique combination of fabrics, textures and styles. Garments can be layered, very colorful, and silhouette isn’t a focus but often a result of the combination of pieces. Outfits often will have “themes”. All patterns, textures, and colors are used in a creative’s wardrobe; there are no limits or restrictions.
Where to shop: Ben Sherman, Comme des Garcons, Doucals, John Varvatos, Just Cavalli, Ted Baker, Thomas Pink, True Religion, Urban Outfitters, Craft Fairs, Thrift Shops, Army Surplus.
